NO RIDES LEFT FOR THE HORRORSHOW

Adit and Solo form Horrorshow, Sydney based label Elefant Traks‘ first signing for quite some time

“What began with early experiments in beat making and writing lyrics steadily increased in confidence and by the age of 18, Solo was joining Spit Syndicate on stage (supporting the likes of Atmosphere and Bliss n Eso) and Adit had progressed far beyond those first few tentative steps. Horrorshow slowly began drafting and developing material before deciding in 2007 to start recording – resulting in a collection of songs entitled ‘The Grey Space’.

It was not until 2008 that these songs caught the ear of Elefant Traks on the strength of a growing buzz and strong recommendations. Not long after, the pair signed to the label and The Grey Space was given a release date of August 16th 2008.

The funny thing is, Elefant Traks were never planning to put out a release around that time as the schedule was completely full. Perhaps that’s the best way of introducing Horrorshow – a group that demands your attention with a heartfelt offering that showcases honest lyricism and rich production at a level that is unexpectedly mature. So keep an ear out, because in 2008 – grey is the new black…”

‘Storm’

couldn’t help but take note of all the death jazz talk on the Brownswood blog

there’s a seriously dope, in depth podcast on the stuff that can be downloaded from the above link

and of course, Brownswood Recordings have these Japanese guys signed called  Soil and Pimp Sessions who have a thing for rabbits and out there, outrageously good sounds. Jazz badasses.

the video for ‘Storm’ above is just the tip of icebergs and causes me to feel like I’m having a brain freeze. But in a good way ya dig?

FLEUR EARTH EXPERIMENT

‘Ausduck’

Melting Pot Music…. this is just holy schnitt!

signed to the Berlin melting pot the Fleur Earth Experiment, FEX, Das Fleur, whatever they may be, are fresh breaths that make me exclaim ‘Badu Les Nubians and noneoftheabove’

fresh indeed for Underground this week

time is short so I can’t explore the side groups or loves that these people share but more will be uncovered shortly JUST CHECK THE LINKS and go with the floh

UNDERGROUND/HEAD’S DOWN 24.07.08 – THE HEADBANGER

‘UNDERGROUND/HEAD’S DOWN’ – THURSDAY 10pm til 12AM on FM 99.3 (Sydney EST)

sooooooo…. what’s in a name? ask the station. All good. We move on.

delved into the slowly and steadily reissued (at least online) Raw Fusion backcatalogue to snatch up some goodness, combining it with some recent releases for a short mix this week.  It ain’t nowhere near complete until they put out the Red Astaire stuff though. The most thorough label doing it for mine. Click here for a featureon the man btw. Top dude, and he def rocked Sydney when he came through.

otherwise, we rocked that Drop mix (it’s criminal that no one over here’s playing that!) thrown up by nalden. There’s a link to the side, so you best get correct. One of my faves for the year no doubt – the Erjee track is crazy!

and how can I not post about that record above??? Japan’s Samon Kawamura remixes the remix something serious! Big toon! Huge! Otherwise, a welcome, welcome return from Nomo, more Ummah like stuff from Q-Tip, Mweslee and the All City crew got that good good, Hint damn near got the album of the year, and 2000 Blacks new album gets more rub. Well, well, well. My computer’s blown a gasket, so last week’s show wasn’t the inaugural Thursday jumpoff I had planned. We’re all set for this week however!

To my count Yellowtail has 8 releases out alone this year. You may have noticed them in our playlists going all crackheaded. EPs, remixes, 12″s. In a bout of craziness distributors gave us two of his tracks this week – the one featured above is a candidate for single of the year, the Arch-Typ remix in particular is unbelievable!

Scandanavia came strong this week – new stuff from Dutch beatmakers Sir OJ, HayZee, and F.S. Green (check their free beat tapes), Danish group KoenNAS (!!!)Rustie, Zomby, Samiyam, Jose James, FlyLo, Kissey Asplund, Harmonic 313, plus the return of Roots Manuva. Now if that ain’t fucking rollcall, what is?
